My sis died recently just 99 days after diagnosis w/Stage IV. Yours is III but still don't underestimate the speed.
If you have subcutaneous lesions 1 cm.+ you may qualify for PV-10 which is showing good results and is non-toxic - but don't waste time in figuring out what best to do, they have just about everything at M.D. Anderson. Your Dr. may discourage you from going but that fact is that the most people who live to talk about surviving late stage melanoma went to M.D. Anderson. Go!
If it were me, I would check myself into the Dept. of Experimental Therapeutics or with Dr. Hong specializing in melanoma.
Dr. Sanjiv Agarwala is at St. Luke's (not far from Pittsburg) with the PV-10 if that route is more appealing to you.

In february 2008 i was diagnosed with stage3 melanoma had surgery to remove. All went well then 4 months later had lymph node surgery 8 were positive for cancer. Did 6wks of radiation and then in jan 09 started iterferon and 2wks into it wound up in the hospital made me too sick. So the dr's decided to stop interferon had a pet scan last week and scan revealed lesions on my liver, kidneys,spleen, and right femor bone. Dr told me i am gonna die and it would be in a few months. Starting chemo on monday DTIC all my scans from the past year came back clean and now this one was the bad one. I had a scan in oct and it was clean but this one is bad. Anyone out there have a similar story your response will be greatly appreciated thank you and god bless.
